Biography
Dr Qiu-Sheng Li is Chair Professor of Civil Engineering and the director of Architecture and Civil Engineering Research Centre at City University of Hong Kong. He graduated from Shanghai Jiao-Tong University with BEng in 1984 and from Harbin Institute of Technology with MEng in 1987. He obtained his PhD from Monash University in 1996 and his PhD thesis was awarded Professor K.H. Hunt Medal. His research areas include wind engineering, structural dynamics and computational mechanics. He has published four books and over 280 refereed international journal papers. Prof. Li has received several awards for his academic contributions including National Natural Science Foundation of Chinese Outstanding Oversea Scientist Award in 2004 and The First Class Award of the Scientific and Technological Progress from the Ministry of Education of China in 2010. He was appointed as Chang Jiang Chair Professor by the State Education Ministry of China in 2007 and National Expert of the 1000 Talent Scheme by the Ministry of Human Resources of China in 2013. In particular, Prof. Li is the recipient of the 2016 Jack E. Cermak Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers, the highest honour in wind engineering, in recognition of “his many contributions to wind engineering that range from fundamental to applied researchâ€. Currently, he is an associate editor of Journal of Structural Engineering, ASCE and an editorial board member for fifteen international journals.
